been increasing rapidly every day. We have plenty of laws and policies to govern and regulate a respective society. However, when it comes to providing a robust framework to regulate digital societies, we seem unprepared, having nearly zero understanding of the robust laws and policies governing data in modern technologies. Additionally, with the emergence of technologies such as AI (artificial intelligence), Quantum Computing, and Blockchain technology in society, the issue of data privacy has become a paramount concern for businesses and consumers worldwide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Emerging AI technologies involve the collection, use, and processing of large-scale personal data. Governments worldwide have attempted to implement stringent data privacy laws and regulations to protect individuals&#8217; privacy rights and the interests of businesses. However, in spite of having data protection laws, we remained fragile and ambiguous in protecting personal data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In this article, we will explore the landscape of data privacy laws and regulations across major geographies of the globe, their implications for businesses, and strategies for compliance.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Understanding_Data_Privacy_Laws\"><\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Understanding Data Privacy Laws<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Data privacy laws across the globe govern how organizations collect, use, store, and protect individuals&#8217; personal information. There are a few robust laws in our time, like the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), one of the most notable data privacy regulations that aim to govern the data ecosystem efficiently. Why is GDPR considered one of the most robust data protection laws? The simple answer to this question is that the GDPR has strict data protection and privacy requirements for individuals within the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). This article is not about the GDPR. Therefore, I will limit the scope of it and would like to take you to the general landscape of the data protection law framework.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">So, data privacy laws across the globe majorly govern companies in three ways, as listed below.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">How does the organisation collect the data? Ensuring transparency, fairness, and legality in the process<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Companies use the data to ensure compliance with the legal requirements of a particular geography<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Data storage, while following procedures and protocols, ensures that data is fully protected from unauthorised access and use, malware, and other cybersecurity threats<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Key_Provisions_and_Requirements_for_Robust_Data_Protection_Laws\"><\/span><strong><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Key Provisions and Requirements for Robust Data Protection Laws\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Data privacy laws across the globe typically include provisions for obtaining user consent for data collection and processing. The nature of the personal data governance framework continues to evolve and expand globally.
